Patient Extrication and Rescue (PEAR) is Ambulance Rescue’s national specialist service for complex patient access and bariatric extrication. Led by Specialist Paramedics in Critical Care, PEAR supports NHS trusts, councils, non-emergency patient transport providers, private organisations and individuals who need safe, professional assistance to move patients from homes, care or nursing facilities into emergency, urgent or routine healthcare.

Our highly trained teams are equipped to lift and transfer patients weighing up to 500kg, carry out light interior object removal (such as doors or bannisters), and work seamlessly alongside technical rescue, USAR and HART resources. We also provide forensic body retrieval in partnership with HM Coroner or Police services.

PEAR offers three flexible call-out options to meet every need:

  • Emergency – Same-day response for urgent or emergent admissions
  • Urgent – Typically within 4–8 hours, nationwide
  • Pre-planned Extrication – A qualified expert attends in advance to assess, plan and liaise with all parties to ensure a seamless, dignified patient journey

Available 24/7 with national coverage, PEAR provides a single, trusted solution for the management of complex patients in homes, hospitals and the community
